so it was 5pm sunday and i had the whole evening ahead of me; i was ready to get some shit done, like laundry and balancing my checkbook and cleaning my desk off... but i wanted to enjoy the last of the weekend sun, so i headed out to jupiter to sit on the patio and read a book while sipping a beer. the plan was to hang out until the sun went on its merry way, then go back home and eat dinner and accomplish stuff, but as they say, the best laid plans... it happened to be oldtime music night, and the band was quite good, and one beer turned into two, and then i got to chatting with the people whose table i was sharing, and two beers turned into three, and then it was 9pm and i hadn't eaten anything and i was therefore unexpectedly quite drunk. oh well, at least a good time was had!

the weekend was nice. geoff and i drove down to the pinnacles on friday night, did a little bit of climbing on saturday, came back sunday after breakfast and a dip in the pool. it was nice and relaxing, too hot to do anything too strenuous in the way of hiking very far in the sun, but pleasant with breeze and/or shade. i led the little 5.4 sisters route that we'd done last time we were there. i was a lot more confident on it even than i was in march, and found the leading quite easy. at last i've had my first outside lead, simple though it was. woo! after that we had a nice lunch sitting by the lake, then tried to figure out what else to climb. geoff didn't really want to lead, hot and tired boy that he was, and although there are a number of things there can be toproped with a walk around, the hike would be pretty long, so we opted to just go back to tourist trap wall, where geoff scrambled up next to rat race and set a toprope above the face to the left, which has a nice little 5.10a up it called angstrom's away. i impressed myself with the improvement in my finger strength and ability to use tiny things as footholds. i couldn't quite figure out what seemed to be the proper 5.10a route up (had to use the arrete over to the right for one bit, which didn't seem to be on route), but i was pleased with my performance. we made it back to the campground barely in time to buy some ice, NINE MINUTES after the store was supposed to be closed, which was apparently VERY LATE according to the woman with a stick up her ass who runs the place. it made me unaccountably happy that another group pulled up just after we walked out with our ice and also begged for some, which she provided grudgingly. so, we weren't THE Late Ones. (we had also arrived the night before at 10:37pm, expecting the gates to be open till 11 as stated on the webpage, but apparently they were closed at 10:30. the woman with the stick up her ass pulled up to the gate with her husband just after we drove up, and he was nice enough to let us in while the woman sat in the truck scowling.)

at any rate, other than getting stung by some sort of beelike thing on my boob saturday morning and having to pay for a rather sad shower that night at the campground, it was a lovely weekend.
