gee look at the time

i caught up on lj. yes, after being out of town for 5 days, i actually took the time to catch up on my friends list. wow, that took a lot of time. time i should've probably spent doing more useful things, but oh well, it was nice to have a relaxing weekend.

friday night i went to kevin&nikita's and enjoyed hanging out with folks i don't see enough, had pancakes there in the morning, then headed home and hid in my apartment all afternoon. it was HOT yesterday. plans to see sfshakes in oakland were scrapped in favour of a later date in sf. i dyed my hair and grabbed dinner at triplerock and then headed over for the io2.1 launch party. just missed nevin and sandy apparently, and unfortunately io never made it, as it managed to b0rk itself just before it was to be brought over, alas. it was nice to hang out with tina a bit though, and watch the social dynamics of a group of people i didn't know at all. i was too lazy to make it to aaron's party; didn't feel like driving over there and back by myself. all in all it was a pleasant day though. i was supposed to go to an autocross thing today, but no plan got made ahead of time, so i just slept in, then went and had brunch at chester's, walked around and looked at stuff in shops for a bit, then had to explore the newly remodeled longs drugs, where i somehow managed to spend $100. (why do i have such a weakness for drugstores?) came home and had grand plans to do various productive things, but ended up mostly just hanging out and reading lj, silly me. i did unpack from the backpacking trip and wash my sheets though, woo. would've done more laundry, but i didn't have enough quarters. i definitely need to regularly have more weekend downtime for myself. i've been keeping myself too busy and feeling like i'm not taking care of stuff at home and in my own head, then when i do get time i just want to take advantage of it to relax and don't get the things done that i'd like to... when are they going to add another few hours to the day? would 3 or 4 more be so much trouble?

the backpacking trip to big pine creek was nice, a good little vacation. thankfully we got to stay at marcus & lisa's in mammoth the nights before and after our backcountry outing, which made the whole thing much more enjoyable. we got a little bit of acclimatization before trying to hike with packs at 10k ft, we got to shower and get a good night's sleep before driving home, and we got to hang out with them as an added bonus! the hike in was super hard (for me), but the area was really pretty. (pics will be up shortly, although a lot of them kinda suck, because i don't know how to use my digital camera very well. the auto modes don't seem to do well in bright sun, so everything is overexposed...) we weren't (or i wasn't anyway) up for anything too strenuous on our 2nd day, so we just did a very small day hike and hung out by the lake and read, which was nice, although it was too bad we didn't get to see the glacier. we made it through without killing each other, and although my knees were definitely complaining a bit by the time we got back down, they were fine afterwards. it was rather depressing driving back through yosemite knowing i had to go to work the next day, wanting nothing more than to just turn left and stay in the valley... still haven't figured out that whole independently wealthy thing, although perhaps another short stint of unemployment will be in order soon?
