woo, fainting
Apr. 23rd, 2003 05:05 pmso i've been wanting to get circular barbells for my bottom ear piercings for a while, and i finally decided on some 12g titanium ones. the nice lady behind the counter at the shop looked at my ears and said she thought i might be able to stretch straight to 12g, since i've had these holes for years and years and years. so i said hey sure might as well give it a try. got to wait around while a couple of squealy college girls got their noses pierced together, then i went in and the nice man with the pointy objects inserted the 12g taper in my left ear. it was very tight and somewhat painful, but not too bad until he tried to put the jewelry in and discovered that it was actually slightly larger than the taper. but, he decided to see if he could fit it in anyway, and that's when i fainted, woo. point 1: i probably should've eaten more than just a scone and latte 3 hrs before. point 2: i used to faint semi-regularly from puberty through college, so it wasn't freaky or worrisome or anything. point 3: it was, however, different from my prior fainting experiences in that it happened much faster and i was a bit disoriented afterwards, which was interesting. (usually i could feel myself getting faint and then i'd have time to sit down before i actually passed out, then i'd come to and know right away what had happened. this time i felt a little faint and was about to tell him that and then next i knew i thought i was dreaming something but i couldn't remember what, and i was all disoriented for a second before i remembered where i was and what was going on.) anyway, after that the nice man put the chair down for me to lie horizontal and brought me some water, then we just put some 14g plain ol' stainless steel captive bead rings in and sent me on my way. so the circular barbells will have to wait a month.
then i had some falafel.
then i found my car blocked in by two police cruisers, erstwhile occupants of which were across the street chatting with an upset elderly chinese woman. it was fortunate that they weren't dealing with some crackhead spazz or something, allowing one of them to leave the situation and move his car so that i could go hooooooome. yay.
in other news, my extra battery for camera finally shipped yesterday. to recap - in stock, claimed to ship in 1-2 days. after almost two weeks, i called and they said they'd put my order on "high priority" and it should ship in, again, 1-2 days. said yes they did have them in stock but the warehouses were backlogged filling orders. 2 days later, still not shipped, called again, spoke to a higher up person who checked out the warehouse situation to see where i could get it shipped to me fastest from, swore up and down that it would definitely absolutely ship the next day, no doubt about it. that was on thursday. and when did it ship? 3 business days later. sigh.
