the sun and the fog keep fighting overhead today. first the sun was winning for awhile, but then the fog came back strong. the sun fought back and gained some of its lost ground, but now i think its about to be overwhelmed until tomorrow...
yesterday i went down to usenix to deliver the signed offer letter, and i asked tentatively if it might be possible to get a four day weekend with monday aug 4 off in addition to the friday aug 1 that they'd said would be ok. (originally it was suggested that i might want to make my first week a 4-day one by starting on tuesday to lessen information overload, so i said ooh good idea, but can i make it friday i take off instead?) anyway, yesterday she said it would probably be okay, but today she reconsidered and said that given the training schedule and that the person currently in the position has to be crosstraining for her new position and that monday is the busiest day, it wouldn't be such a good idea after all. oh well. it was a lot to ask just starting a new job, and i wasn't really expecting it at all, but still it was disappointing to think i had it and then get it revoked! just means one less leisurely evening of pizza and margaritas and having to drive back from yosemite sunday night. it won't really affect what we do there. but still it would've been nice to be relaxed and not have to drive back sunday... we'll probably hang out on the river friday afternoon, try to do After 6 on saturday, and do some not too epic hike or another on sunday. definitely looking forward to it. when i got the email this afternoon it put me in a bad mood, and then i spilled taco all over myself and the rug, which didn't help matters. but i'm all better now i think!
went climbing this morning and did fairly well. i was pretty weak after not doing anything physical last week at all and only really pulled out one climb and hangdogged up another, but all things considered it was a good day. they've got a bunch of V0s (and even some V0-) up now too and i tried a few of those. since it's so conveniently close, i think i'll try to pop over after work a couple times a week and do some bouldering, in addition to whatever climbing schedule we put together. although i'll have less free time with a job, it's easier to get myself to do stuff if it's more scheduled, so i'm pretty optimistic about my training. i'd like to lose 15 lbs by the end of the year (in addition to getting stronger of course.)
gotta go get some cardio in before i head over to lamont's for some westwingage. haven't hung out with him in quite some time.
