when i was working at the library while in college, i was rarely getting anything resembling enough sleep. on my breaks, i used to go into a storage room off the office area i worked in where there were always a lot of loaded book trucks. there, i would lie down under a table and nap. when you're in college and running on fumes, even 10 minutes of sleep snatched amidst a forest of library books is indispensable...

my friend, north berkeley properties
Nov. 23rd, 2004 09:04 pmyesterday our property management company left notes at the doors of the remaining unrenovated apartments stating the following:
This letter is to inform you that your unit will be inspected on Tuesday, November 23, 2004, for a brief period, sometime between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
alright, fine. i read said note and then wandered into my kitchen, where i found piles of dirt fallen through the ventilation pipe above my counter and all over my clean dishes in the dishdrainer, plus a thin film of dirt covering everything, due to work they were doing on the roof. grr. i decided to call them and get them to pay for the cost of cleaning up this mess. a few piles of dirt i can deal with, but a layer of it covering everything in the room? i shouldn't have to clean that up.
ok, so i come home tonight, first thing i notice is they didn't lock my deadbolt, then i open the door and see my lava lamp in the middle of the floor. i walk in and see various things moved and not restored to their original positions. okay... i walk into the kitchen to find... a fucking disaster area. they have REPLACED MY STOVE. they did NOT CLEAN ANYTHING. the new stove is smaller than the old one. not only did they not clean the floor now exposed, but they left the entire room in a mess. there is dirt ALL OVER. and, AND, they were apparently doing more work on the roof and decided to sweep crap off the side of the building or something, because everything near the window is now covered in a THICK layer of dirt, and the window sill has about an eighth of an inch of dirt layered on it. the floor is covered with dirt and bits of god knows what, whatever was built up under the stove probably, there is exposed floor that used to be under the stove, because the linoleum was installed around the old stove, and there is a halo of unpainted wall around the new stove. and everything in the room is covered in a thick layer of dirt. AARRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!
new stove? fine. i can accept that. it works, it's supposedly safer, fine. but how the FUCK does "brief inspection" mean "replace appliance with no notification and leave apartment in a state of disaster"?! WHAT THE FUCK?! they are sure as HELL going to pay to clean this shit up. and not even a note or message explaining anything.
i have now performed triage with a broom and vacuum, so the kitchen is merely covered with dirt and not a complete disaster area... i need a drink.
