officially suburban
Jul. 31st, 2006 09:45 pmwell, yesterday geoff and i signed a lease on a house in... newark. for those of you unfamiliar with this little town, it's by fremont, next to the dumbarton bridge, in an area covered with new planned housing developments. suburbia! i wanted to stay close to oakland, was willing to go down into san leandro, hayward hills, but really wanted to stay semi-urban, but we just couldn't really find a place that met our needs, and for the same money we get a nice 3 bdrm house with a garage and a backyard in newark. it'll be a bit of an annoying commute to emeryville for me, but it'll be much better for geoff, and hey i only work part-time and bring in like a third of what he does. it's close to most of the people who visit us a lot, and geoff doesn't mind driving when we go out to the city, so really my increased commute is the only drawback. it won't be that bad though, so mostly i'm just glad to be done househunting. the owner of the place is nice, no management company to deal with, and he wants someone to stay for a while, so maybe when we pay of my credit cards we'll invest in a hottub for the backyard. mmm, hottub.
also, i had to let my assistant go this morning, which was stressing me out a lot, but it turned out to be pretty painless; she said she was already looking for other jobs and wasn't planning on staying much longer anyway. so, that's a load off my mind. now i have to hire someone else. and figure out how to interview people more effectively and come up with some kind of test so i can see people's technical abilities a bit.
still coughing, not seeming to get any better. i made an appointment with my doctor for thursday morning, the earliest they had available for a somewhat urgent but not emergency case. geoff keeps teasing me about getting a lung replacement. bah.
but now i get to eat mac&cheese with corn and watch hells kitchen. yay!
