yesterday, on vacation in hawaii.
today, fired.

yup, i came back from vacation today and was fired this afternoon, for, um, you know, not living up to my insane manager's uptight perfectionist expectations. and instead of telling me she thought it was time for me to move on and trying to set up a smooth transition period during which i could make sure things i was working on were finished, documented, etc. and help to train my replacement, all of which i was perfectly willing to do (and planning on doing soon, since we had already discussed my leaving within the next few months), she decided to up and fire me and stand over me while i cleaned out my desk. i had agreed to go in tomorrow to finish up some stuff and go through and make lists of pending items, information to impart and whatnot, but i wanted to do it on my terms, not with her standing over me watching my every move as if i were some kind of threat, so i said fine, if you don't want me to help you out with this transition, then i'll just go now. and there it was. so i get 2 weeks pay and they get to struggle through trying to hire someone and train them without my help. oh well!

i'm not overly broken up, since i was planning to leave soonish anyway, but this definitely wasn't how i expected to go! so it's an all new year now for me, woo. i guess i get my chance to go to the gym and focus on getting in shape for awhile without having to stress about trying to balance time at the gym and time at home while working 40 hrs a week. no excuses now!

Crapola! Was there any warning at all? Any telltale signs? Any disturbances in the force, however slight?

Well, at least you'll have time to post your photos of Hawaii now. Bring it!

Suck. What a way to come back from vacation!
I'm currently unemplyed too - we should do an afternoon that takes advantage of that - go drink in the bars or something & then drunk dial all our friends who are working. ;)

Definitely! I'd be happy to help teach you too.

Jeez! I hope you're dealing with this ok. Sounds like you are. What a nasty way for them to end things. At least you'll get unemployment and severance. And now you can use your two weeks when you would have had to work to look for another job.

Btw, I'm still unemployed, too. We can hang out sometime when all the working stiffs are busy.

That is awful. I can't believe how crazy your boss was behaving. It's nuts. You're really handling it well. I don't think I would have been able to in your place.

Oh, ick. Even if you know a job isn't working out getting laid off still kinda stings. Good luck finding something that works out better.
