don't the laws of physics apply, or is my apartment a special tunneling object zone

so i dropped my phone on my floor, and the battery cover came off and vanished into thin air. *poof* nowhere to be found. wtf?! things cannot just blink out of existence. i've scoured the entire area with a flashlight, and nothing. grr. grr!
