last weekend geoff's parents were in town, starting out a trip that has them heading down the state and then back up again visiting relatives. they arrived saturday evening and we went to dinner at tommys, then they headed down the peninsula to their hotel at moffett field. there were people over at the apartment that night for games and drinks in honour of christal's birthday, and i managed to get really drunk without blacking out or having a hangover, woo.

sunday geoff and i drove down in my shiny new car and met the parents at their hotel, then we caravaned to the monterey aquarium. last time i was there it was february and the hordes of tourists were absent, so i was a bit in shock at the level of pandemonium, crowds of people filling every available space and screaming children everywhere. not the lovely peaceful relaxing experience i usually enjoy at the aquarium, but fun nonetheless.

after the aquarium we bid the parents adieu and drove up to santa cruz, where we hung out on the boardwalk for a bit, eating garlic fries, finally using the leftover tickets that i'd been carrying in my wallet since last year to ride the big dipper, and then trying our luck at one of the carnival games. the "throw a wiffle ball into a basket" stand had these cool brightly coloured stuffed lizards that looked blacklight fluorescent (which geoff promptly dubbed goa lizards), and i wanted them. now, this is one of those games which looks easy, but is actually extremely difficult (well, i guess that describes most carnival games, eh), because the ball will jump right out of the basket no matter how gently you throw it, but somehow the fates were smiling upon us, for not only did geoff sink a ball, but he gave me one to throw, and i did as well! so i now have two beautifully trippy lizards to call my own, yay. after acquiring lizards, we found our way to mobo sushi where we stuffed ourselves before heading back up to san francisco.

on the way home, just out of santa cruz, my odometer ticked over to 1k miles, putting me out of my break-in period and ready to do some real driving! today i took my car in to albany subaru to have them do an oil change and a general once-over/diagnostic to make sure everything is peachy so that i can get to zooming, and they called this afternoon to tell me that they have to take the computer out and send it back to subaru. ?! i'm still not sure what the issue is, since i only heard a voicemail about it and the technicians have so far been too busy to call me back and give me the lowdown, so all i know is that my car will be ready on tuesday and i am currently in possession of the cheapest economy rental car in existence, paid for courtesy of my subaru warranty.

tomorrow will be yet another busy bee weekend, starting off with a day hike near muir woods (with weighted packs), then a bday dinner at bucca di beppo, followed by thump (with astral projection!) there are also at least three house parties going on that i'm not going to make it to, as everyone and their brother's dog seems to have chosen july 31 to have a shindig this year, alas...

and now i must pack and head out to meet geoff in der city.
