fate and me, saving the day

this afternoon i prevented west berkeley from horrible conflagration. in an effort to fight my afternoon slump, i decided to take a walk around the block, and as i was heading up the opposite side of the block from where i work, i saw a small bit of smoke on the ground ahead. next to a couple of white plastic chairs set out apparently for people to sit while engaging in tobacco-related break activities, the bark ground cover was smouldering. as i neared the chairs, the smoke became more prolific, and just before i reached them, flames erupted! i stamped out the fire and tried to smother the smouldering bits as well as i could, then found somebody inside and told them to get some water to douse it. i continued on my way and went back to work, with shoes smelling like smoke.
