i seem to recall seeing someone mention somewhere that there was a way to look at recent comments on your friends' entries. anybody know?

I remember [livejournal.com profile] vzd posting something about easily seeing the friends of your friends, but I can't remember seeing anything about comments. Oh, and her post about that would have been about a year ago+, just to put the timeline together for you. *shrug* I doubt I have helped at all, but it was the only thing I could remember seeing that was close to what you are describing.

I don't know of such a tool; the only one I know about is this, but it shows recent comments in your journal as well as recent comments by you. The kind where you could see your friends' comments would be a huge time sink useful.

My vaporware comment system of doom would let you subscribe to an entire entry, but perhaps I should lean on LJ folks to implement that.

Turns out it was suggested over 2 years ago with no response. Hrmph.

If there were a way to subscribe to your post, I could see if anyone eventually replies with a way to subscribe to your post.

You hit upon one of my chief complaints about lj.

I have a friends group which I scroll all the way through every day or two quickly scanning for fresh links. This relies on the journal setting Add &nc=xx to comment URLs on http://www.livejournal.com/editinfo.bml?authas=username — a horrible hack, but I guess it's better than nothing.
